Prophet Ṣāliḥ ﷺ was sent to the Thamūd — a civilisation in the Ḥijr region (north-western Arabia) known for carving homes into mountains. They too were prosperous, powerful, and idolatrous.
As a sign from Allah, a she-camel appeared miraculously from a rock. Ṣāliḥ ﷺ commanded his people to let her graze freely and not harm her. Despite the miracle, the leaders of Thamūd arrogantly hamstrung the camel. Three days later, a mighty thunderous blast destroyed them all. Ṣāliḥ ﷺ and the believers escaped.
