What is a Rak'ah? A rak'ah (unit of prayer) is one complete cycle: standing and reciting (Qiyam), bowing (Ruku), then prostrating twice (Sujood). A sitting (Tashahhud) is added after the second rak'ah and at the end, and the prayer closes with the Tasleem (Salam).
